Our Work

Birthright AFRICA is working to build a community of organizations owned, managed, or led by people of African descent for our Scholars to explore their cultural roots and discover the innovative contributions made by people of African descent in the US and Africa.

Greatness & Leadership

Represented by the West African Adrinka symbol for Greatness and Leadership, Adinkrahene, Birthright AFRICA Scholars will develop these values by participating in educational programming to explore historic and present day innovators of African descent through travel and project-based learning within the US and to select African nations. Scholars will have the opportunity to take the Birthright AFRICA journey and travel to Cultural Sites, Museums, Universities, and Innovation Partners - organizations owned, managed, or led by people of Africa descent.

Cooperation & Interdependence

The Adrinka symbol for Cooperation and Interdependence, Boa Me Na Me Mmoa Wo, demonstrates the essential values for Birthright AFRICA to fulfill its mission through partnerships. In collaboration with mission-aligned Innovation Partners - organizations owned, managed or led by people of African descent - Birthright AFRICA Scholars will explore innovation practices through project-based learning and hear from leaders and entrepreneurs of African descent on their path into the fields of Business, Engineering, Technology, Arts, and Sciences (BETAS). Birthright AFRICA will also work in partnership with Museums and Universities in the US to provide local and national exposure trips that highlight innovations and contributions from people of African descent prior to the international trip to a select nation in Africa, starting with Ghana.

Wisdom and Creativity

Drawing on their Wisdom and Creativity, represented by the Adinkra symbol Ananse Ntontan, individuals and organizations globally will have various ways in which to make an impact and support the mission of Birthright AFRICA. Working with the philanthropic community of individuals, foundations, and governments, Birthright AFRICA will drive its educational programming to fulfill the vision of developing global leaders and entrepreneurs proud of their African heritage, confident in pursuing their innovative aspirations with a continued connectivity to the African continent.
